Raspberry Pi mini breakout board for industrial switching power supply

First day of my raspberry pi “ngoprek” (tinkering) day was power lesson, I would not say it problem because raspberry pi is a learning platform. I don’t now if every beginner in raspberry pi found the same problem but I found one in techcrunch blog. I’ve got the same problem as Jon orlin found.

I find the quick start guide on raspberry pi says to find a micro usb power supply-make sure you use a good quality one. Capable of providing at least 700 mA at 5V. well no one review wall power adapter, but I decide to find one on my local market, sorry I’m not the one who like shopping online. Cause I have “more is better” in my mind so I pick the most juicer current one “2.1 A” and yes it cost more. And when I try it on my raspberry pi it gave many problem that has been said on this wiki, so I decide to take my multimeter and the expensive local market power adapter just give me “4.65” V. “bloody” it’s not give me between 4.75 and 5.25 volts that raspberry pi need. Argh..

I think I should make something with this. Cause I ve’got a industrial switchingpower supply  5 V at 5 A  from my past project and it cost almost the same with 2.1 local market power adapter but without USB interface that raspberry pi needed.  So I need to make a mini breakout form barrel jack DC to USB so I can use ordinary micro usb cable.

It maybe overrated use industrial power supply http://www.meanwell.com/search/rs-25/default.htm but it cost around $20, $8 more cost than 2.1 A fake power adapter at $12 and it give you more power juice at 5A and it small also if you don’t mind with the metal case 🙂 . I even make a mini breakout you can just use simple breadboard here. but after this  I don’t even worry about plug any devices on my raspberry pi.

I admit my solution is quite messy and overrated.

it gives me much lesson even from day one, thanks raspberry pi.

namun ada satu kounter yang harus anda hindari yaitu central electro, sebisa mungkin kalo tidak penting-penting banget ga usah belanja di sini, mengecewakan dan harganya relatif lebih mahal .

sebaiknya anda belanja di kounter-kounter berikut :

– Digi-Ware : untuk komponen umu dan breakout unik, harganya cocok dan pelayanannya bersahabat,

tips : cek dulu ke digi-ware sebelum anda ke central electro anda akan mendapatkan harga dua kali lebih murah

– Niaga : untuk komponen SMD

– I-Want : komponen SMD dan konektor

tips : jika niaga tidak tersedia stocknya biasanya I-want ada. kedua toko ini saling melengkapi terkait SMD

– Duta Irama : tools dan komponen standar

Eagle CAD tips #1

I’ve just know that, in eagle CAD we can do these following :

  • if I hold down Ctrl when move it will snap to grid
  • if I hold down Alt when move it will snap to alt grid, I can use it to make small movements

it’s just very helpful

saya baru tahu di software Eagle CAD, bisa melakukan hal berikut

  • Jika menahan tombol Ctrl akan memindahkan komponen pas ke grid
  • Jika menahan tombol Alt akan memindahkan komponen ke alternative grid, bisa digunakan untuk pergerakan yang kecil

hal ini tentunya sangat membantu

Make ISP shield for Arduino

I need to program with AVR C and I don’t have programmer but  I have spare arduino, I found this article at arduino web site. I think is great, and I don’t have to buy a special programmer.

I found it was hard to use jumper cable so I make a simple shield and I intend to make it small so it’s not a full shield.

I want it can supply 3.3 and 5 V so I make two switch and use some diode to guarantee the current flow.

Work with my eclipse, you just need choose avrsip and adjust the parameter for port and baudrate, I get it from sparkfun tutorial

Finding electronics parts on local market in Indonesia

You know it’s not appropriate to search your parts for electronics project like what would you do when you buy food from market. You always find that the local market is not sufficient and many parts are scarce. So I would say to buy on electronic store on internet.

One thing I like from buying from local market is you can touch and actually see the size. There are many e-store included photos but rarely gize you the actual size. Another thing you hand carry it, no waiting time.

Well I like to challenge myself. How if I can build my electronics based on local market stock. The answer it’s not a beautiful experience, it’s like roller coaster ride. And you will find yourself dumb cause you always can open your laptop and smartphone to purchase via e-store.
